Parallel Port

A parallel port is a type of connection port that provides interfaces to devices that uses byte to byte control I/O capabilities such as motor controls in printers and sending data via a network connection between two computers.

Parallel Port

The port has 25 holes, 8 of them are Digital outputs (Pin 2 to 9) and 5 Digital inputs (Pin 10 to 13 and 15). It has a spare of 4 Digital outputs (Pin 1, 14 to 16) that can be used as extra lines for control and communication. Pin 18 to 25 can be used for signal ground purposes.

A computer labels each parallel port with LPT such as LPT1, LPT2 and so on.
